Top Clarifying Shampoos
Ouai Detox Shampoo
You either love Ouai or you hate it based on the smell alone. Personally, I can put aside the smell for a shampoo that is only used once per week.
What I really like about this detox formula is that it pairs apple cider vinegar with keratin. You get that deep clean from the ACV while the keratin helps to keep the hair smooth and soft.
Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar Blend Shampoo
If you like the idea of using apple cider vinegar to get your hair super clean, but don’t want to shell out a ton of money, you can’t go wrong with this Aveeno Shampoo.
When I tested this shampoo, the first thing I noticed was the pleasant fruity scent. It smells absolutely lovely. It also did a really great job at getting my hair clean. I did notice it lightened my hair after continued use. If you have color-treated hair, skip this one.
Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt
Christophe Robin is a luxurious treat. This scalp scrub and shampoo in one is no exception. The nice jar, the pretty smell, and the quality ingredients make this our bougiest pick of the bunch.
I have repurchased this product 3 times, even though the price is a bit on the steep side. If that doesn’t speak to how much I love it, I don’t really know what else to say. Buy this if you want squeaky clean hair with TONS of volume.
Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo
This clarifying shampoo from Neutrogena is intense. Seriously, it does not mess around. One use of this shampoo will get even the greasiest hair clean.
After my second kid, my hair turned into an oily nightmare. The only shampoo that was able to get rid of the grease was this anti-residue shampoo from Neutrogena. If you have oily hair, this is a great shampoo. Be warned, it can be a bit drying and it absolutely shouldn’t be used on color-treated hair.
Bumble and bumble Sunday Clarifying Shampoo
I don’t think you can have a best shampoo list without a shampoo from Bumble and bumble. They offer a formula for almost every hair issue under the sun.
I decided to give this shampoo a try after hearing Anna from The Anna Edit, rave about it. Her hair is very similar to mine and it always looks great.
I really enjoy that this shampoo has a nice lather. The smell is fine and the price is reasonable. It did get my hair clean without drying it out too much. The Sunday Shampoo is suitable for all textures but is best for oily, non-color-treated hair.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo
Living Proof is one of those brands that put a lot of thought into their product formulas. They want to make sure your hair looks great and is healthy. The Triple Detox shampoo is a perfect example of the nuance in their formulas.
I’ve tried a lot of clarifying shampoos. Most leave the hair feeling incredibly dry and overly clean. This shampoo provides a nice balance. This gentle clarifying shampoo gets my hair clean without making it feel like straw. Because this shampoo has less of a lather, I would recommend it to those with fine hair or shorter hair.
Aveda Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo
Aveda was the first non-drugstore haircare brand I ever tried. During college. I would save all my money, get on the city bus, and buy Aveda shampoo at a local salon in Indianapolis. Thankfully, I can now order my favorite products and have them arrive at my doorstep.
I really love using this shampoo. Not only do the rosemary and mint smell good, but they give a nice cool tingle to the scalp. Because this shampoo is free of silicones, mineral oils, and animal ingredients, I feel comfortable recommending this product for all hair types.
