Thank you Weighting Comforts for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

As a wife, mom, entrepreneur, and boss, I have a lot on my plate. So naturally, stress and anxiety are series regulars on this show. And since I don’t plan on hanging up any of my hats any time soon, stress and anxiety management is crucial.

From the DMs that you have been sending me on IG, many of you are also dealing with large amounts of stress. Being the good friend that I am, I jumped on the opportunity to test out the latest tool in stress relief, a weighted blanket.

I am going to be upfront. Weighted blankets are not cheap. However, I really think it is worth it to invest in your health and wellness. There is only one you. Plus you need to feel your best to live your best life. So skip the quad shot from your fave coffee shop and invest that money in yourself.

What is a weighted blanket?

Weighted blankets are much heavier than the typical blanket you have around the house. They can weigh anywhere from 5 to 30 pounds, with most being between the 15 and 25-pound range.

So why would you want one?

Weighted blankets are often used to help people that suffer from anxiety and those that have trouble sleeping. They help ground your body during sleep by pushing it downwards. This process, known as “grounding,” has been associated with a calming effect. The weight of the blankets is also said to simulate deep pressure therapy, a type of therapy that uses firm, hands-on pressure to reduce chronic stress and anxiety.

Since I am not a medical professional, I can’t say that a weighted blanket will, in fact, help with any of these issues. I can just share what I’ve read about the potential benefits and my own personal experience using one.

How did I pick my blanket?

As I mentioned, I was super excited about the opportunity to work with Weighting Comforts. I had been wanting one of their blankets since I first read about it on Popsugar.

I had a hard time deciding between the Quilting Cotton and the
COOLMAX® Weighted Blanket. The Quilting Cotton appealed to me because I love things that are cotton and a warmer blanket can be nice during the colder months. Ultimately, I went with the COOLMAX® Weighted Blanket because we won’t be having anymore super cold nights.

When picking the weight of your blanket, you would pick the one that is closest to 10 percent of your body weight. If you are between sizes, you want to round up. So a 200-pound person would pick the 20lb blanket but so would a person that weighs 160.

If you are not sure which blanket to buy, Weighting Comforts has a short little quiz to help you find the perfect blanket for you.

Do I like my blanket?

I don’t like my blanket, I LOVE my blanket. End of review. Just kidding. Seriously though, it took just one use to know that I liked it. I took the blanket out of the box as soon as I got it. I’m telling you, I was almost asleep immediately after laying down. The only thing that kept me awake was my toddler asking for his snack.

How do I use it?

I have used the blanket in three different ways. First being on the sofa or bed while reading. When I use it while reading, I only put it on the lower half of my body so my arms are free. I also use it as a pre-sleep calm down. I will get in my bed and cover myself with the blanket, while I do my pre-sleep meditating. Then once I am tired, I remove the blanket and use my normal blankets. During nap or when I have the bed to myself, I will use the blanket while I sleep.

Now you may be asking why I don’t use it to sleep all the time. Honestly, my husband hogs the bed. There just isn’t room for me to lie flat on my back with the weighted blanket. I have used the weighted blanket while on my side, and it works, I just don’t prefer to sleep with it that way. I can’t put my finger on exactly why though.

Does it really help with stress and anxiety?

So far it has helped me. Wearing the blanket helps me calm down and it comforts me, kind of like a nice big hug. I do make sure to use the blanket while I do other anxiety-reducing activities like reading, drinking tea, or meditating.

Tell me more about why you picked Weighting Comforts.

As an entrepreneur myself, I can be pretty particular about the brands I support. This year, I am challenging myself to purchase from and promote more brands that not only sell amazing products but are also run by amazing people!

Donna Durham, the founder of Weighting Comforts, is a therapist that started selling blankets out of her garage with her son. Now they partner with Sew For Hope, a non-profit that provides sewing machines and classes for international refugees. So not only is my blanket provided me with comfort, it’s helping refugees make a living. How cool is that?

Are you convinced, yet?

Like I said, I LOVE my Weighting Comforts weighted blanket. If you want to purchase one for yourself or as a gift, you can buy one at Weighting Comforts.
