We love a good capsule wardrobe. A closet full of timeless staples mixed with a couple of unique pieces makes for the perfect wardrobe. Not only is a capsule wardrobe cost-effective but it is an environmentally-friendly way to look great every day.

When you can shop in most stores, it is easy to build a cute and affordable capsule wardrobe. However, building a capsule wardrobe using plus-sized pieces is MUCH more difficult.

So to help a sister out, we scoured the internet far and wide to put together a plus size capsule wardrobe.

Even in spring, the temperatures can be pretty cold. Plus here in the PNW, it is windy and rainy for a good part of the season. For outerwear, we went with a good trench coat, a casual utility jacket, and a cute denim jacket.

Trench Coat: Hooded Trench Coat // Budget Friendly Option

Utility Jacket: Favorite Utility Jacket // Affordable Option

Denim Jacket: From Madewell // Old Navy Jean Jacket

Shirts, Sweaters, and Tees

Who here has 50 shirts but only wears a handful of them? We know we used to be guilty of this.

For our capsule, we wanted to make sure we had enough options for tops while also not going overboard. We’d recommend adding one fun top to this selection. Maybe a funky print or something sparkly. It’s up to you.

We stuck to blues, whites, and pinks to make sure everything went together while also having a spring feel. You can pick any colors you would like but we recommend sticking to two or three colors that work well together.

Layering Sweater: JCrew Sweater (sold out) // Madewell Sweater // Target Sweater

Classic Stripe: JCrew Striped Shirt // Old Navy Striped

White Tee Shirt: LLBean // Old Navy

Drapey Shirt: Madewell Drapey Shirt // Old Navy Oversized Shirt

Camping Shirt: JCrew Popover (sold out) // Old Navy Camp Shirt

Puffy Sleeve Top: Nordstrom Pink Puffy Sleeve (sold out)

Most of the pants and jeans that you already own will match well with the clothes in this capsule. Here we just selected our favorites in case you are needing to fill a gap in your wardrobe.

White Jeans: Madewell Jeans

Distressed Jeans: Old Navy Jeans (sold out) // Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

Skinny Jeans: Good American // Target Skinny Jeans

Here at Feisty Life Media, we are fans of dresses. One piece and you are dressed. We picked two easy to wear dresses that are super cute and will have you out the door in no-time.

Striped Dress: LOFT Dress (sold out) // JCrew Striped Shirtdress // JCrew Striped Poplin // Target Striped Dress

White Dress: ModCloth Dress // JCrew Maxi Dress

Handbags and Totes

When it comes to bags we keep things down to a minimum. For spring, we highly recommend a tote bag that goes with everything.

Tote: Madewell Ziptop Tote

When it comes to shoes, we will always choose comfort over style. Our go-to shoes are always flat or low heeled, perfect for running errands or chasing around kiddos.

Espadrilles: Sulodos Flat Espadrilles // Target Ankle Strap Espadrille

White Sneakers: Ecco Sneaker // Asos White Trainer

Sandals: Steve Madden Sandals (sold out) // Platform Sandals

Some final thoughts…

Because a capsule wardrobe is filled with staples to wear throughout this season and the next, we opted for higher quality pieces as our first choice. But because we understand that not everyone has a large budget, we included affordable options as much as possible. To make your capsule more affordable, bring your shopping list with you to consignment and thrift shops.

Also don’t feel like you need to buy new clothes to fill your capsule for the season. Assess your current wardrobe and pull from items you already have. Next, identify any gaps. Finally, make a shopping list for the items you truly need.
