There is nothing I enjoy more than a quiet night at home when I can put on a face mask, grab a magazine, and light a candle. Technically any candle will do, but the experience is so much better with a good candle. An amazing scent profile, a decent scent throw, and a beautiful jar are all part of what makes burning a candle an enjoyable experience.

Since these candles are really for special occasions, why not make the occasion extra special by buying a luxury candle? To help you pick the right one, I curated a list of luxury candles. You’ll find some of the most sought-after scents and a couple of hidden gems.

How to Make Your Fall Candles Last Longer

Whether you’ve splurged on a luxury candle or picked one up at HomeGoods, you want to get the most out of your candles. To get the longest and safest burn, you need to take proper care of your candles. Here are a few tips and tricks that I wish I knew when I first got into candles:

The first time you burn, let the candle burn evenly. The first time you use a new candle, make sure you have plenty of time to allow the candle to burn. This will ensure the radius of the initial burn is large. A small radius from the wick will lead to tunneling.

Always trim the wick. Don’t underestimate the importance of a wick trim. After your first burn but before you light your candle again, make sure to trim the wick. You want a nice, clean, and flat wick. This will keep your candle from getting sooty. Sooty candles aren’t pretty and they are a fire hazard.

Consider a candle warmer. The safest and most efficient way to enjoy a candle is by using a candle warmer. You will not have an issue with tunneling, there is no soot, and there is no open flame.
