Beauty and Lifestyle Favorites July 2018

I can’t believe August is almost here. Of course, I am already wishing it was September. Why? Because I want the fall weather back. Even though I grew up in Tennessee, I just don’t do heat well anymore. Anything about 90 is just too hot.

When the heat arrives in July, everything in my routine changes. My skin and my hair change from sorta oily to an all out oil slick. Plus the heat makes me lazy and I just don’t want to be bothered to do anything.

Trying to pare down my routine while also not looking like a literal hot mess, I came across a few new products that I love.

In the summer my skin is too oily to wear any type of foundation or even eyeshadow. I actually hate the feeling of foundation on my skin so I am okay with going without. More often than not, I leave the house wearing one of the 50 mascaras I am trying to use up and a lip product. Lately, I’ve been wearing the Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick in “One Mauve Time” I love that it is so easy to apply that I can do it without a mirror. If I wasn’t trying to declutter my makeup collection, I’d probably buy an extra of this color and  pick up Black Cherry Baby. I really just adore all of the Marc Jacobs Beauty lip products.

One thing that never gets neglected during the summer are my feet. I would absolutely live in sandals all year if I could. I haven’t had the time to get regular pedicures this summer so I have been doing at home pedicures. In the past, I would use a foot peel from Kokostar or Patchology to get my feet smooth. I still plan on doing those in the winter, but during the summer I’d rather not look like a snake shedding its skin. I was always curious about the Amope Pedi Perfect so I decided to order one on Amazon. I am so glad I did! I use it pretty regular to keep my feet smooth.

For my nails, I am taking a break from painting them or getting gel manicures. I have always had very dry, thin and weak nails but I am just now trying to do something about it. I can’t remember where I read about CND Solar Oil, but for the price, it was worth the shot. You just paint it on like nail polish really. Oh and it actually smells pretty good.

The summer and mom life means my hair is in a permanent messy bun. I am a bit afraid to see what condition my hair is in since I have been keeping it up non-stop. I didn’t color it this summer either so its a mix of medium brown, light brown, and a few strands of grey. I really wanted to do an almost blonde balayage but I didn’t. I did decide to try a few new scalp treatments and the L’Oreal Professional Serioxyl Denser Hair Treatment. The Serioxyl isn’t available for purchase in the US, but I ordered it on Amazon from a UK based seller and it took about two weeks for it to arrive. It gives my hair a ton of volume and it has only been a few weeks. I can’t wait to see how much it helps with hair growth over the next three months.

I know most of you aren’t bloggers and don’t have much of an interest in blogging, but running this blog is such a huge part of my life. I put a lot of work and love into each post I write. Because I want to make my small piece of the Internet as awesome as I can, I decided to invest in a few tools. Let me preface this by saying you can have an awesome blog without spending a ton of money. I am however at a point where I am taking my blog to the next level and feel I can better achieve that with higher quality images. I had originally planned on upgrading my camera to the Canon T6i but I’m wanting to make more video content so I decided to get a camera that will take amazing pictures and do awesome video. I ultimately went with the Canon 80D. Yes, it is an expensive camera and it made me a bit queasy when I realized how much money I had just spent. However I love it and I can’t wait to do some really awesome photo shoots and record some fun videos!

I do plan on moving away from filming beauty content to filming more vlog style and lifestyle content. While my content may be shifting, I still love to watch beauty content on YouTube. Right now I am really loving Brianna Fox. She seems like a really nice person and I love her style. We have very different coloring and skin types, so most of the products she uses are new to me.

Since I have been spending so much time working on the blog in the evenings, I have also been watching more television. My husband and I don’t like the same type of shows, but we do both love Somebody Feed Phil. The first season was called I’ll Have What Phil Is Having. If you like food, travel, and clean goofy humor, you will love this series.

If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably noticed I haven’t been posting very often. I’ve honestly been feeling a bit uninspired and really unwilling to deal with the algorithm bologna. So for now, I have been a consumer of content on IG. I’ve been spending time actually looking at pictures and engaging with others. I’ve found a whole bunch of new accounts that I love to follow. If you love mom blogger type content but also lifestyle photos, you should totally check out @taramoon. I love how relatable her content is while still being very pretty.

I’d really love to hear more about some of your favorites of the month. Also do you have a favorite Instagram or YouTube accounts that I should check out? Let me know!

  • I’m with you on summer heat getting to me, especially annoying when I’m sitting in an office freezing my butt off while then going into my hot car to drive home and melt. Sigh.
